The Todoroki Clan is one of two Bloodline Limit Clans in Kumogakure. Their bloodline technique is called Mamori Nuku, or Yoton (Lava) Manipulation.
Clan History:
Before The Beginning:
The Todoroki Clan was founded by a man named Asuma, a man who wanted to protect his family from harm, and make sure himself and his extended relatives were known throughout the land as taking no crossings lightly. They were a family of three siblings, each with their own children, all living in the same village. As it was in those days, the town was attacked by bandits, and while Asuma and some others did their best to fight them off, it was burnt to the ground. His family (and the other survivors) took to the mountains, in search of a new place to breed a new family, a family that could protect itself from any danger, and fear no hardship.
They settled a tiny series of houses on the mountain that now houses Kumogakure, chopping down their own trees and beginning to farm their own food, away from most markets or civilizations. One day, while Asuma was exploring the mountain ranges, he found himself climbing a rocky slope above their little village, when the ground began to shake uncontrollably, and a great roar was heard throughout the surrounding lands. Asuma gazed forwards in horror, as a volcano churned forth a great belch of flame above him. His family was below him, sure to be pulverized by this onslaught of the elements. He considered his ninjutsu. His earth techniques couldn’t possibly contain all of the lava, no matter how grand they were, and his fire techniques would do nothing against the inferno before him. The magma surged towards him, taking no prisoners, engulfing the face of the mountain it’s hateful maws. A regular man would have died trying in the face of Asuma’s disaster. However, there was something special, something warped in his genetics, or maybe just in his fierce will to protect his family.
With his incredible prowess and ability, he reached his vast grasp of chakra forwards, and took the lava at the throat. As the fiery onslaught before him poured faster and faster, with little forgiveness, he closed his eyes, and yelled like a madman. “Yoton! Mamori Nuku!” (Lava! Hold Fast!)
When he opened his eyes, panting desperately, he saw the grand wave reared up before him, still bubbling, but stagnant. It didn’t move an inch. He sighed, not entirely sure what he’d just managed to do. At this point, the legends differ. Some say he sent the lava back up into the volcano, some say he sent it down the other slope, and some stories say he outright consumed it. We’re not sure what’s true, but we know that he came back alive, and continued the Todoroki name.
Cloud Village, Chapter One
Generations later, a man named Kikotsu Ono came to the slightly larger compound that the Todoroki family had built itself. He befriended their leader, Roushi Todoroki, and asked for the Clan not just to protect itself, but other villages and eventually the whole country from raiders and bandits like the ones who’d attacked their village. For whatever reason, Roushi agreed, and once the Daimyou was asked for backing, Kumogakure began to take shape.
The master ninja Kikotsu soon returned with the redheaded Warai Clan at his side, and together, they began to create what could be turned into a city. The new clan made their own street to live on, on the West side of the pre-existing Todoroki buildings. The Todorokis built a wall around the city, and then they just had to build a reputation. It started off slow, as a desolate rocky plain with scaffolding in a circle around it, with laughter coming from the country below, telling them they were idiots to try it. But people came, surely enough, wanting the protection of two ninja clans, and this legendary man they’d heard of, told he was some kind of lord amongst shinobi.
Chapter Two
And so, the Village Hidden In The Clouds, through years of work and populating, was born. The Todoroki and Warai Clans existed in relative peace, spending most of their time trying to rid their country (which was quite size-able at the time) of crime and raiders. Obviously, they couldn’t do this entirely, but it absolutely kept them busy, for years on end.
Kikotsu was crowned the First Raikage of the village, since the title made even more of a name for the village. Their objective was simply to remove the crime from the country they loved, and there was no way it would happen without fear or respect. War came and passed, the Todoroki doing their very best to make sure that the country was safe from the forces of the Leaf Village, in the Land of Fire, south of them.
Chapter Three
Time passed, and the wars ended, letting Kumogakure gather even more followers and faith, since they had protected the country during a war. As a sign of friendship, and because of his formidable prowess, a fearsome man called Azalea was crowned as the Second Raikage, a proud young member of the Lava Bloodline Clan. The walls were rebuilt on his command, with a larger ring around the city and more defenses.
The Volcanic Emperor was not going to have anybody harm his village or his people, and he began to send people out to ask new Clans to become a part of the village, in order to increase their strength. The recruiting calls were heard around the country, and with some reluctance, clans of mercenaries or raiders who had been losing work because of the village’s existence began to pledge their allegiance. The village was beginning to prosper. After an attempt was made on his life by one of the most powerful heads of the clans they’d recruited, Azalea stepped down from the seat of the village, but not after insisting the clan was forgiven, even though their leader was dead.
His successor was a woman named Katakith Warai, otherwise known as The Cloud’s Scarlet Razor. She brought peace and great happiness to the land, and that pleased Azalea as he moved into his older age.
Chapter Four
During the reign of the Fifth Raikage, a woman named Seijitsu Todoroki was the ambassador to Konoha, ending a war and creating an alliance with them.
The uprising of the minor villages, or “War of Eight” came and by with little affect on the clan, despite their mild irritation at Kumogakure’s danger. The clan’s strongest warrior fell in a battle with the criminal organization during the final invasion of their base, which was quickly assimilated into the Lightning Country and Fire Country.
Clan Information:
Clan Culture
Before Kumogakure moved into their town, the people of the Todoroki Clan were self-reliant. They farmed everything they ate, they built everything they needed, and they killed anyone who wronged them. Despite not needing to do any of those things, with the industrialization of The Cloud Village, they still eat mostly what they grow on their farms, and build everything they live in themselves. They’re also largely involved with selling their services and goods, usually with the help of people married into the family, as most of the purebred Todorokis don’t know much about the subject.
Todorokis put a large emphasis on honour, and are seen as being serious, stoic, and harshly logical.
The Clan is not above using sneak tactics and dirty or “effective” strategies to win battles or wars. Each member usually sees themselves as quite independent, in the way that a pillar doesn’t rely upon other pillars to hold himself up, but expects them to carry their part overall weight.
Clan Appearance
Torodokis usually have blonde or light brown hair, depending on the people married into the clan above a child. The clan colour is a deep red, and the crest they carry on their clothing is a simple white shield, with a deep red series of vines running up the shield, almost looking like cracks.
They are usually stocky and muscular in build, the average height being about 5’6”. A lot of the members wear thick coats in the clan colour, with the crest on the heart of the jacket.
Facial hair is common for men of the clan, and hairstyles vary, though most keep their hair short and tidy, for lack of any better fashion sense about it. Their skin is always an olive hue, though most clan members barely show their skin, wearing a large deal of clothes almost all of the time.
Basic Information
1. All Todorokis work as either farmers, shinobi, or builders, sometimes both or all.
2. There are generally fourty to fifty members of the clan at any given time. Most families only have one child, on occasion two, so the clan doesn’t grow rapidly.
3. The whole clan has a stoic sense of protecting the honour of their family, their village, and their country. Pride is not seen as a virtue, and their members would never be known as cowards. Self-sacrifice is a very real option for them, if the situation arises, to protect the village or ensure success. Fear and cheekiness shunned, with a preference for seriousness, and the ability to speak out when something is wrong, or act when necessary.
4. The most important members of the clan are The Council, as well as the eldest people. The strongest warriors are also highly valued, for bringing a good name to the clan.
