Hello new member, who is most likely checking the rules section to see if this is the type of place they'd like to spend their time and effort. Welcome to the Grand Shinobi War 2.0.
This site has gone through a time-skip, during its life-time. The world has changed drastically during that time. This is a thread that will attempt to dispel any confusion aroused by things you see in the older sections of this site, or things that members say, that simply don't make sense, like "I sure miss the Tsuki Clan" or "Remember the Rat Demon battle between the Alliance and the Trio?", and you'll be all "what the eff".
So, I'm here to give some basic information on what this site used to be.
Basically, we had two sides fighting a giant war (with some other guys on the outside). There were the Konoha Alliance (Konoha, Suna, Kiri, Iwa, Kumo) and the Trio (Hell, Blood, Glass). You know what the Alliance is. You don't know what the Trio is. I'm not going to go into huge detail, but I'll tell you a tiny bit.
The Hell Village (Onigakure) was a village beside Konohagakure, in what was probably the Tea Country. They had a bunch of different clans and powerful members, and were generally all over the place. They were the most powerful village in the Trio. This village was destroyed in a siege attack, ending the war. Some of the remaining forces scattered across the globe, others likely went into hiding or allied with other ninja villages.
The Glass Village (Harigakure) was a village that was between the Sand, Tears, and Leaf Villages. They used glass powder and glass techniques, and were run by a mod known as 'monkey'. They were assimilated into the borders of the Sand Village.
The Blood Village (Ketsugakure) was pretty much the scariest place in the known world, with psychos running the entire operation. Nasty place. Beside the Mist Village, on an adjacent set of islands. The village was almost entirely wrecked/destroyed, though I wouldn't be surprised to find former shinobi hiding in the Kyoufou Islands.
Then there were the two Criminal Organizations, the Hakumei Seidai, who resided in the Waterfall Village between Cloud and Leaf, and the Neo Akatsuki in the Star Village, between Konoha, Iwa, and Taki.
The Neo Akatsuki were exactly what they sound like, and the Hakumei Seidai were tyrants attempting to forcefully bring justice to the world, even if it meant being completely out of their minds.
That era contained a lot of terribly powerful shinobi IC, and a lot of really intelligent roleplayers. Some of them had to leave due to things like hurricanes hitting their homes (tragic) to needing to spend more time working. Nonetheless, it was the time when Grand Shinobi War was in its' youthful prime. The next era was created when some of the original admins and mods got tired and moved on to new pastures, and those of us who were left wanted to try something different.
So, that was how the Pact of Four came about. Anyways, that consisted of the pre-existing Blood and Hell villages, scrapping the Glass Village, and throwing the Sound Village into the mix because apparently somebody thought it was a good idea (karma says it was probably me), and a re-make of the Rain Village, the Village Hidden the Tears.
Anyways, the Sound Village is what its always been, and is positioned between the Leaf, Stone, and Star. They were obliterated without a trace to be found, at the end of the rebellion.
Hekigakure, or The Tears Village. This village was run by some stud-muffin called Maelstrom, who I'm told is a pretty cool guy. The village focused on detection and spiritual techniques, maximizing or minimizing personality and feelings to their own advantage. They were taken peacefully by the then-allied Leaf and Sand Villages, the Kage surrendering, knowing they couldn't win with the Hell Village defeated. The ninjas were taken into the forces of the surrounding villages, or fled in preference to living a life under a different village.
That stuff played it's time out, and now here we are. Two years later.
There are no connections to the Canon Series on this website, meaning that there are no characters who will be in any way related to the ones on the series, which DOES NOT mean you can name your character Sasuke, Naruto, Itachi, Sakura, or anything like that, because Bash or I will likely eat your face.
Characters from the past war may be kept, as long as there is due explanation of their part in the war, and if they are from the Trio/Pact side, how they somehow managed to miraculously not die. This should be rare, please.
But, there you have it. Any more questions, you can just ask an older member (one that was around at the time - you can identify us by the wrinkles, walking canes and grey beards) and they should answer it for you.
And finally, before I leave, I'd like to thank some people.
Obviously, I'd like to thank the absolutely HUGE name you'll see around the site, Wildkunai. Wild was the founder of the site, and did a lot of work to make this place as great as it was when I was a member (nyeeeeeh back in my day...).
Then all there's all the other original admins and mods, as seen
Those guys are/were awesome.
Now, there's some fantastic people who work with me, and I'd like to name them accordingly.
Bashiku - the fastest worker the admin team has, not to mention getting the most work done, and being the most descriptive. If you want a personal novel explaining something jutsu related, you should talk to him, because he pretty much compiled our entire Index. He's the Jutsu master, and Tsuchikage.
Seltor - Seltor is our only founding admin, and general badass. He's great for honest opinions on stuff, as long as you're prepared for no-holds-barred realism. Also the Kazekage.
Jedo - Has so much commitment to the site that he uses his Nintendo 3DS to log on. I didn't even know that was possible. Anyways, he's great to talk to if you need a profile or jutsu accepted. He's the Mizukage.
So yeah, that's the basic update. Maelstrom out!
